Commercial District BID
In May 2011 employers in the district were invited to take part in a ballot to determine whether they wanted the area to become a BID (business improvement district). A resounding ‘yes’ vote now means that all businesses in the area – regardless of their size, stage or sector, can benefit from significant improvements and developments in the District. These developments are funded by a levy of 1% of rateable value with the money raised being controlled solely by the Commercial District BID and used to fund services over and above those provided statutorily by the public sector. The total raised over five years will be in the region of £3m and levy payers will have a direct say in how this money is spent. Through the Commercial District BID they can have a powerful voice and influence what is happening in their area.
Bounded by Leeds Street to the North and the Strand to the West and connected to the retail core by historic Castle Street, the area boasts impressive architecture and iconic contemporary design.
